I. Macroeconomic & Industry Context
Bahrain has positioned itself as a regional fintech innovation hub, with increasing emphasis on open banking frameworks, API-driven financial ecosystems, and digital-first banking models.
Financial institutions are transitioning from isolated service providers to platform-centric orchestrators, where value is created through ecosystem participation, interoperability, and embedded financial services.
II. Strategic Mandate
The Managing Director will lead the design and execution of a holistic digital banking platform strategy, transforming fragmented financial services into a unified, scalable, and interoperable ecosystem.
III. Core Leadership Responsibilities
1. Platform Architecture & Ecosystem Design
- Architect end-to-end digital banking platforms based on modular, API-first frameworks
- Enable third-party fintech integrations through open banking standards
- Design multi-layered service architectures (customer interface, service orchestration, core systems)
2. Financial Ecosystem Orchestration
- Build and manage multi-partner financial ecosystems including fintech startups, payment providers, and data aggregators
- Establish platform governance models ensuring scalability and interoperability
- Define revenue-sharing frameworks and ecosystem monetization strategies
3. Digital Banking Product Innovation
- Oversee the development of next-generation banking products (digital wallets, SME financing platforms, embedded finance services)
- Integrate AI-driven personalization engines into customer-facing applications
- Enable real-time financial service delivery across channels
4. Regulatory & Compliance Leadership
- Align platform operations with Bahrain’s financial regulatory environment
- Ensure compliance with data protection, open banking, and financial reporting standards
- Develop risk-aware architecture frameworks embedded within platform layers
IV. Technical & Strategic Ecosystem
- API Management: Apigee, Kong, MuleSoft
- Cloud Infrastructure: AWS, Azure (multi-tenant architectures)
- Data Systems: Real-time analytics, distributed databases
- Security: Identity and access management, zero-trust architecture
V. Candidate Profile
- 15+ years in fintech, digital banking, or financial platform leadership
- Proven experience in building and scaling digital banking ecosystems
- Strong understanding of open banking frameworks and API economies
- Ability to lead cross-functional, geographically distributed teams
