Role Synopsis
An advanced, distributed fintech ecosystem operating across the Gulf region is seeking a Senior Backend Payments Infrastructure Engineer to architect and scale mission-critical transaction systems. This role sits at the core of a high-throughput digital payments environment, responsible for building resilient backend services that power real-time settlements, cross-border remittances, and multi-currency wallet infrastructures.
You will operate in a deeply technical capacity, shaping backend architecture decisions while ensuring performance, security, and regulatory alignment within the evolving financial ecosystem of the UAE.
Core Mandate
The position demands ownership of backend payment rails, including transaction orchestration layers, ledger systems, and reconciliation engines. The successful candidate will be expected to operate across the full lifecycle—from system design and microservices architecture to deployment pipelines and runtime optimization.
Key Responsibilities
Backend System Architecture & Engineering
- Design and implement distributed backend services for payment authorization, clearing, and settlement workflows.
- Develop high-performance APIs (REST/gRPC) capable of handling thousands of transactions per second with minimal latency.
- Architect event-driven systems using message brokers (Kafka/RabbitMQ) to ensure asynchronous scalability.
Financial Systems & Ledger Engineering
- Build double-entry ledger systems ensuring atomicity, consistency, and auditability of financial transactions.
- Develop reconciliation engines capable of interfacing with external payment networks and banking APIs.
- Ensure strict data integrity across multi-currency transactional environments.
Security & Compliance Integration
- Implement backend security protocols aligned with PCI-DSS and regional financial regulations.
- Integrate fraud detection hooks and risk-scoring microservices within transaction flows.
- Ensure encryption standards (TLS, AES) are enforced across all data layers.
Infrastructure & Performance Optimization
- Optimize database performance (PostgreSQL, NoSQL) for financial workloads.
- Deploy containerized services using Docker and Kubernetes in cloud environments (AWS/GCP).
- Implement observability stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK) for system monitoring and anomaly detection.
Technical Stack Expectations
- Languages: Java (Spring Boot), Go, or Node.js
- Architecture: Microservices, Event-driven systems
- Databases: PostgreSQL, Cassandra, Redis
- Cloud & DevOps: AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, CI/CD pipelines
- Messaging Systems: Kafka, RabbitMQ
Candidate Profile
- 5–10+ years of backend engineering experience, with at least 3 years in fintech or payments.
- Proven experience designing scalable financial systems or high-availability transaction platforms.
- Strong understanding of distributed systems, concurrency, and fault tolerance.
- Familiarity with cross-border payment protocols (SWIFT, ISO 20022) is highly advantageous.
