Strategic Context
The GCC financial ecosystem is undergoing a decisive shift toward embedded financial services, where banking capabilities are seamlessly integrated into non-financial digital platforms. This role is positioned at the forefront of that transformation, tasked with architecting a modular, API-first Banking-as-a-Service (BaaS) ecosystem capable of supporting fintechs, marketplaces, super apps, and enterprise platforms.
You will design a multi-tenant financial infrastructure layer that enables third-party entities to deploy regulated financial services (payments, lending, wallets, cards) without directly holding banking licenses.
Mandate Scope
Platform Architecture & Engineering Governance
- Architect a cloud-native, multi-tenant BaaS platform with strict isolation layers and tenant-specific compliance configurations
- Define service orchestration models using Kubernetes, service mesh architectures, and event streaming frameworks
- Establish standards for API lifecycle management, versioning, throttling, and monetization models
Embedded Finance Enablement
- Design SDKs and APIs for seamless integration of:
- Digital wallets and stored value systems
- Lending-as-a-Service (credit scoring, underwriting engines)
- Card issuance and tokenization layers
- Enable “plug-and-play” financial services for e-commerce platforms, mobility ecosystems, and SaaS providers
Regulatory Engineering & Compliance Architecture
- Embed compliance logic into platform layers aligned with Central Bank of Bahrain frameworks
- Ensure adherence to open banking mandates, data residency laws, and consumer protection regulations
- Develop automated compliance monitoring systems with real-time alerts
Scalability, Resilience & Security
- Design systems for high availability (99.999% uptime) and horizontal scalability
- Implement zero-trust security architectures, encryption standards, and identity access management (IAM)
- Integrate advanced fraud detection engines and behavioral analytics
Candidate Profile
- 12+ years in fintech/platform engineering, with at least 5 years in BaaS or embedded finance ecosystems
- Expertise in API-first banking, microservices, and distributed systems design
- Strong knowledge of financial regulations within GCC or similar jurisdictions
- Experience leading large-scale platform transformations
