A high-growth financial technology ecosystem in Bahrain is seeking a Lead Backend Engineer to drive architecture, engineering strategy, and platform delivery across payment systems, merchant acquiring platforms, reconciliation engines, fraud monitoring systems, treasury workflows, and enterprise financial intelligence services.
This role is built for a senior engineering professional capable of bridging hands-on backend development with architectural leadership—someone who can define both technical systems and engineering standards required to scale secure, high-availability financial infrastructure.
You will serve as a technical authority responsible for ensuring platform security, transaction integrity, operational resilience, and long-term sustainability across mission-critical fintech ecosystems.
This is a leadership role where backend architecture directly influences customer trust, regulatory readiness, and business continuity.
Strategic Responsibilities
- Lead backend architecture and engineering delivery across enterprise fintech platforms
- Build scalable systems for digital payments, merchant settlements, wallets, and transaction routing services
- Define engineering standards for API governance, platform security, observability, and operational resilience
- Improve settlement architecture, treasury workflows, reconciliation systems, and financial reporting platforms
- Oversee software delivery across multiple engineering teams supporting payment and financial products
- Strengthen fraud detection systems, compliance automation workflows, and financial intelligence reporting
- Collaborate with cybersecurity, compliance, infrastructure, and executive leadership on strategic platform decisions
- Drive engineering excellence through code governance, mentorship, architecture reviews, and technical hiring
- Lead incident management, production reliability improvements, and platform recovery strategies
- Support regulatory technology integrations and compliance-focused backend development initiatives
- Evaluate emerging technologies that improve payment efficiency and financial risk controls
- Contribute to enterprise-wide digital transformation strategy across large-scale fintech ecosystems
Executive Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related discipline
- 7+ years of professional backend engineering experience with strong leadership exposure
- Advanced expertise in backend architecture, distributed systems engineering, and microservices design
- Strong command of Java, Python, Node.js, PostgreSQL, Redis, Kafka, and containerized environments
- Experience with Kubernetes, cloud infrastructure, CI/CD automation, and enterprise deployment systems
- Deep understanding of payment systems, transaction lifecycles, and fintech operational architecture
- Proven leadership within high-availability banking, payments, or enterprise fintech environments
- Strong stakeholder management and technical decision-making capabilities
- Experience in digital banking, payment infrastructure, or enterprise financial systems is strongly preferred
