A high-impact opportunity is available for a senior backend systems leader to design and orchestrate the foundational infrastructure powering next-generation digital payments and financial transaction ecosystems.
The Senior Backend Systems Director – Digital Payments, API Ecosystems & Financial Transaction Orchestration will lead the development of intelligent backend platforms enabling seamless payment processing, instant settlements, cross-border transactions, and embedded financial services across diverse digital environments.
This role requires mastery of backend scalability, API design, financial messaging systems, and distributed transaction coordination in highly regulated, high-availability environments.
Core Responsibilities
Payment Backend Architecture
- Design scalable backend systems for real-time payment processing, authorization, clearing, and settlement flows.
- Build resilient financial transaction orchestration engines capable of managing complex multi-party payment workflows.
- Develop high-availability payment APIs supporting millions of concurrent requests.
API & Ecosystem Engineering
- Architect secure API ecosystems enabling integration between fintech platforms, banking systems, merchants, and third-party financial services.
- Design API gateway infrastructure with authentication, rate limiting, and fraud prevention capabilities.
- Enable embedded finance functionality through modular backend services.
Transaction Integrity & Consistency
- Implement distributed transaction management systems ensuring atomicity, consistency, isolation, and durability (ACID compliance in distributed environments).
- Build reconciliation engines for cross-system financial data integrity.
- Design retry, compensation, and failure recovery mechanisms for payment workflows.
Backend Security & Reliability
- Develop backend security frameworks including tokenization, encryption, and secure authentication services.
- Ensure compliance with financial data protection laws and international payment standards.
- Build observability systems for monitoring latency, throughput, and system health across backend services.
Technical & Professional Requirements
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Backend Engineering, Software Architecture, or Financial Technology Systems.
- 12–18 years of experience in backend development, payment systems engineering, or large-scale distributed systems.
- Strong expertise in REST/GraphQL APIs, microservices, distributed databases, and event streaming systems.
- Deep understanding of payment networks, financial messaging protocols, and transaction lifecycle management.
- Proven ability to lead high-performance engineering teams in fintech environments.
