Job Overview
Principal Digital Payments Infrastructure Architect – United Arab Emirates (UAE)
Role Overview
This role is designed for a senior-level fintech architect who will define, govern, and evolve nation-scale digital payment infrastructure across real-time payments, cross-border settlement rails, embedded finance, and next-generation merchant acquiring ecosystems. The position operates at the intersection of payments engineering, financial market infrastructure, regulatory design, and platform scalability, with a mandate to architect payment systems capable of operating at regional and global transaction volumes.
The role is neither operational nor vendor-centric. Instead, it focuses on strategic payment architecture ownership, protocol selection, interoperability frameworks, and the long-term evolution of digital transaction ecosystems within highly regulated financial environments.
Key Strategic Mandates
-
Architect real-time and near-real-time payment rails capable of handling multi-currency, high-throughput, low-latency transaction flows
-
Define interoperability standards between domestic payment schemes, international networks, wallets, open banking APIs, and emerging digital asset rails
-
Design scalable clearing and settlement logic, including liquidity optimization, prefunding models, and intraday risk controls
-
Establish tokenization, transaction orchestration, and fraud-resilient payment workflows
-
Collaborate with regulatory and financial infrastructure stakeholders to align technical design with evolving payment regulations
-
Drive the transition from legacy batch-based systems toward API-native, event-driven payment architectures
-
Develop long-range roadmaps for AI-driven fraud detection, behavioral analytics, and payment intelligence layers
Technical & Domain Expertise Required
-
Deep expertise in payment protocols (ISO 20022, ISO 8583, real-time payment schemas)
-
Advanced understanding of card networks, instant payments, digital wallets, and alternative payment methods
-
Strong architectural experience with high-availability distributed systems, message queues, and microservices
-
Knowledge of transaction risk modeling, AML transaction monitoring logic, and fraud orchestration
-
Familiarity with cross-border settlement frameworks and correspondent banking modernization
-
Ability to translate regulatory requirements into enforceable technical controls
Professional Profile
-
15+ years in fintech, payments engineering, or financial market infrastructure
-
Prior leadership in large-scale payment platforms, central payment switches, or global acquiring systems
-
Proven ability to operate at executive and regulator-facing levels
-
Strong systems thinking, documentation rigor, and architectural governance discipline
Compensation Structure (UAE)
-
Base Salary: AED 75,000 – 95,000 per month
-
Annual Performance Incentive: 25% – 40% of base
-
Long-Term Incentive (LTI): Architecture milestone-based awards
