Job Overview
Principal Architect – Digital Payments Infrastructure & Cross-Border Clearing (Saudi Arabia)
Strategic Context
Saudi Arabia’s financial ecosystem is undergoing a profound transformation driven by large-scale digitization of payments, real-time settlement frameworks, and cross-border transaction interoperability. This role sits at the intersection of payments engineering, regulatory-grade resilience, and macro-scale transaction orchestration, supporting next-generation digital payment rails designed for regional and international throughput.
Role Mandate
The Principal Architect will assume end-to-end intellectual ownership of payment infrastructure design, focusing on high-availability systems that process massive transaction volumes across domestic and cross-border corridors. The position demands deep fluency in payments messaging standards, settlement logic, liquidity routing, and failure-tolerant architectures, all executed in a fully remote, globally distributed environment.
Core Responsibilities
-
Architect and evolve real-time and near-real-time digital payments platforms supporting domestic clearing, international remittances, and multi-currency settlement flows.
-
Design scalable transaction orchestration layers integrating ISO 20022, event-driven microservices, API-first gateways, and asynchronous settlement engines.
-
Define system-level strategies for latency optimization, transaction finality, reconciliation automation, and exception handling at national and cross-border scale.
-
Establish architectural controls aligned with Saudi regulatory expectations, including data residency, operational resilience, auditability, and financial crime safeguards.
-
Provide architectural governance across distributed engineering teams, ensuring consistent standards, documentation rigor, and future-proof extensibility.
Technical & Professional Profile
-
15+ years in mission-critical financial systems, with demonstrable leadership in large-scale payments or clearing infrastructure.
-
Advanced expertise in distributed systems, high-availability architecture, cloud-native payments platforms, and fault-tolerant design.
-
Deep understanding of transaction lifecycle management, liquidity mechanics, reconciliation engines, and settlement risk.
-
Proven ability to engage at both executive and deeply technical levels, translating regulatory and business objectives into durable system architecture.
Engagement Model
-
Fully remote, globally distributed collaboration.
-
Operating hours aligned primarily with Saudi time zones for strategic alignment.
-
Long-term mandate with architectural authority and significant autonomy.
