Role Overview
A high-growth financial technology ecosystem in Abu Dhabi is seeking an accomplished and visionary Executive Director – Global Payments Infrastructure & Merchant Finance Strategy to lead enterprise-wide transformation across digital payments, merchant acquiring, treasury-linked transaction services, and embedded merchant finance ecosystems.
This is a flagship executive role created for a senior fintech leader with deep expertise in transaction banking, merchant acquiring, payment orchestration, financial infrastructure modernization, embedded finance, and scalable digital commerce ecosystems. The successful candidate will be responsible for defining the institution’s long-term strategy for merchant payments, financial acceptance systems, and next-generation transaction architecture across GCC and international markets.

Key Responsibilities
- Define and execute enterprise-wide payment infrastructure strategy across merchant acquiring, payment gateways, settlement systems, digital wallets, and treasury-linked transaction services
- Lead modernization of merchant onboarding systems, payment acceptance frameworks, omnichannel acquiring platforms, and embedded merchant finance solutions
- Develop scalable strategies for merchant lending, working capital financing, invoice-linked finance, and transaction-based revenue optimization
- Build and optimize payment orchestration frameworks to improve transaction authorization rates, fraud prevention, settlement speed, and operational efficiency
- Collaborate with regulators, compliance teams, legal divisions, and treasury stakeholders to ensure full alignment with UAE and international financial regulations
- Drive strategic partnerships with processors, banks, card schemes, remittance networks, infrastructure providers, and ecosystem partners
- Establish executive governance frameworks for payments profitability, merchant lifecycle management, and infrastructure performance reporting
- Support expansion into new regional and international payment corridors with strong treasury-linked transaction capabilities
- Improve customer acquisition, retention, and merchant portfolio growth through data-driven financial product strategies
- Mentor senior leaders across operations, product strategy, compliance, and financial infrastructure teams
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Financial Technology, Business Administration, or Computer Science
- MBA or executive postgraduate qualification strongly preferred
- 10+ years of senior leadership experience within payments, fintech, transaction banking, or financial infrastructure strategy
- Strong expertise in merchant acquiring, payment gateways, treasury operations, and enterprise transaction ecosystems
- Deep understanding of payment compliance, acquiring frameworks, API banking, and cross-border transaction operations
- Proven success leading large-scale payment modernization programs within regulated financial environments
- Exceptional executive communication and board-level stakeholder management capabilities
- Strong commercial leadership with measurable success in payments monetization and merchant growth strategies
