A sophisticated fintech environment is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to design and maintain high-volume payment infrastructure systems that support real-time financial operations across multiple currencies and channels.

Core Engineering Responsibilities

1. Payment Processing Architecture

• Design and implement backend services responsible for payment initiation, authorization, clearing, and settlement.
• Build resilient transaction pipelines capable of handling high concurrency and burst traffic.
• Ensure idempotent processing to prevent duplicate or inconsistent transactions.

2. Distributed Systems Design

• Develop microservices-based architectures for financial workflows.
• Implement event-driven systems using Kafka or similar streaming platforms.
• Ensure system resilience through retries, circuit breakers, and failover strategies.

3. Financial Ledger Systems

• Design and maintain double-entry ledger systems ensuring full auditability.
• Build reconciliation engines to align internal systems with external banking networks.
• Guarantee consistency across distributed financial states.

4. Performance Engineering

• Optimize backend services for low-latency transaction processing.
• Improve database performance using indexing, partitioning, and query optimization.
• Implement caching layers to reduce system load and improve response times.

5. Security & Compliance

• Enforce secure handling of sensitive financial data.
• Implement encryption for data at rest and in transit.
• Ensure backend systems align with financial regulatory standards.

Technology Stack

• Languages: Go, Java, or Kotlin
• Architecture: Microservices, Event-Driven Architecture
• Databases: PostgreSQL, Redis, Cassandra
• Messaging Systems: Kafka, RabbitMQ
• Infrastructure: Kubernetes, Docker, AWS/GCP

Candidate Profile

• 6–10+ years in backend engineering
• Strong experience in distributed systems and high-load environments
• Proven exposure to fintech, payments, or banking systems
• Deep understanding of concurrency, scalability, and fault tolerance
