Job Overview
Principal Architect — Digital Payments (Open Banking & CBDC Infrastructure)
Location: United Arab Emirates (Abu Dhabi / Dubai Financial Ecosystem)
Role Overview
This is a system-defining architecture role focused on the design and orchestration of next-generation national payment infrastructure, including open banking ecosystems, real-time gross settlement interoperability, and emerging central bank digital currency (CBDC) integration frameworks.
The role exists at the frontier of sovereign digital finance modernization—where traditional banking rails, fintech APIs, and tokenized money systems converge into a unified programmable financial infrastructure.
You will be responsible for designing the core financial connectivity layer that enables instant, secure, and regulated value exchange across retail, corporate, and cross-border ecosystems.
Strategic Responsibilities
- Architect a multi-layered digital payments ecosystem spanning retail payments, instant transfers, cross-border corridors, and merchant settlement networks
- Design open banking API ecosystems enabling regulated third-party financial service access with secure consent and identity governance
- Develop interoperability frameworks between CBDC prototypes, commercial bank money, and stable-value digital instruments
- Define national-grade API security standards, encryption models, and identity authentication protocols for financial data exchange
- Lead the design of real-time settlement systems capable of high-volume, low-latency transaction processing
- Collaborate with financial regulators on programmable money standards and compliance-aligned system design
- Establish fraud-resilient transaction architectures using tokenization, behavioral authentication, and cryptographic verification layers
Technical Depth Expected
- Deep expertise in distributed systems architecture and financial messaging standards (e.g., ISO 20022)
- Strong understanding of API lifecycle management at national or multi-institution scale
- Experience with cloud-native financial infrastructure, event-driven architecture, and microservices ecosystems
- Knowledge of digital identity frameworks, secure authentication models, and zero-trust financial systems
- Familiarity with CBDC design principles, tokenized deposits, or digital fiat experimentation
Strategic Impact
This role directly influences how financial value moves across an entire national economy—defining the rails for digital commerce, financial inclusion, and cross-border capital efficiency.
