Role Purpose
This position exists to define, design, and govern the core architectural foundations of modern digital payment ecosystems operating at institutional scale. The Principal Architect will assume absolute ownership over the technical coherence, resilience, and scalability of payment systems that support high-velocity transactions, multi-currency settlement, and integration with global financial rails.
The role is not limited to system design alone; it demands deep infrastructural thinking, where payment platforms are treated as critical financial utilities, not consumer software products.
Strategic Scope of Responsibility

Architect end-to-end digital payment infrastructures, covering transaction initiation, authorization, clearing, settlement, reconciliation, and reporting.

Define canonical architectures for real-time payments, merchant acquiring systems, wallet-based payment flows, and embedded finance use cases.

Establish architectural standards for high-availability, low-latency financial systems, capable of operating under peak transactional stress.

Design integration frameworks for international payment networks, correspondent banking interfaces, and cross-border settlement mechanisms.

Develop architectural controls for fraud resilience, transaction integrity, and systemic risk containment.

Translate regulatory expectations into embedded technical constraints, ensuring compliance is engineered into system behavior rather than enforced externally.

Produce highly detailed architectural documentation, including reference models, sequence flows, fault-tolerance strategies, and future-state roadmaps.
Required Expertise

12–15+ years in fintech architecture, payment systems engineering, or financial infrastructure design.

Proven experience designing systems handling millions of transactions per day with strict uptime requirements.

Advanced understanding of payment message standards, settlement logic, and transaction lifecycle management.

Strong command of distributed systems, API orchestration, and cloud-native financial platforms.

Ability to operate autonomously in non-corporate, mandate-driven environments.
