Strategic Context & Mission

The Group Head of Financial API Ecosystems & Open Banking Strategy will lead the conceptualization, design, and global-scale deployment of API-driven financial ecosystems. This role is central to enabling interoperable, platform-based financial services, where banking capabilities are seamlessly embedded into third-party digital environments.

The successful candidate will define how financial institutions transition into open, extensible platforms, fostering innovation while maintaining strict compliance with evolving regulatory frameworks in Saudi Arabia and across the GCC.

Role Architecture

1. Open Banking Strategy & Ecosystem Design

• Develop comprehensive open banking strategies aligned with regulatory directives and market opportunities.

• Architect API frameworks that enable secure, scalable access to financial services for third-party developers.

• Drive ecosystem expansion by onboarding fintech partners, aggregators, and digital platforms.

2. API Engineering & Platform Governance

• Oversee API lifecycle management, including design standards, versioning, monitoring, and monetization.

• Implement API gateways, developer portals, and sandbox environments to support innovation.

• Establish governance frameworks ensuring reliability, scalability, and security across API infrastructures.

3. Embedded Finance Enablement

• Integrate financial services such as payments, lending, and insurance into non-financial platforms.

• Design Banking-as-a-Service (BaaS) capabilities to support diverse industry use cases.

• Enable frictionless financial experiences within digital ecosystems.

4. Regulatory & Security Alignment

• Ensure compliance with Saudi regulatory frameworks governing open banking and data sharing.

• Implement data protection, consent management, and cybersecurity protocols.

• Align platform operations with global standards such as PSD2-equivalent frameworks.

Candidate Profile

• 15+ years in fintech platform development, open banking, or financial systems architecture.

• Deep expertise in API design, microservices, and cloud-native infrastructures.

• Strong understanding of GCC regulatory environments and open banking initiatives.

• Proven leadership in building large-scale fintech ecosystems.
