Role Overview

The Payment Operations & Exception Handling Lead is responsible for managing transaction exceptions, operational disruptions, and payment irregularities across fintech systems. This role ensures that all failed, delayed, or mismatched transactions are identified, investigated, and resolved efficiently to maintain financial accuracy and system reliability.


Responsibility Hierarchy

Level 1: Transaction Monitoring

  • Continuously monitor payment transactions across multiple channels
  • Identify failed, pending, or anomalous transactions
  • Ensure accurate capture of transaction data

Level 2: Exception Identification

  • Detect discrepancies in transaction processing
  • Flag irregularities in authorization, clearing, or settlement stages
  • Categorize exceptions based on severity and impact

Level 3: Investigation & Resolution

  • Investigate root causes of transaction failures
  • Coordinate with finance and technical teams to resolve issues
  • Ensure timely correction of transaction records

Level 4: Prevention & Optimization

  • Analyze recurring issues and implement preventive measures
  • Improve exception handling workflows
  • Enhance operational efficiency through process improvements

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end exception handling processes
  • Maintain accurate logs of transaction issues and resolutions
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams
  • Generate reports on exception trends and performance
  • Support audits and compliance reviews

Candidate Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Information Systems, or related field
  • 5–9 years of experience in fintech payment operations
  • Strong understanding of transaction lifecycles and exception handling
