Role Intent
This role is established to provide system-level stewardship over complex digital payments ecosystems, focusing on governance, interoperability, and sustainable scaling rather than transactional operations. The mandate centers on how payment systems evolve over time, how control mechanisms are embedded at architectural level, and how resilience is preserved as transaction volumes, regulatory complexity, and cross-border exposure increase.
The position operates at the intersection of payments engineering, institutional governance, and regulatory systems design, with particular relevance to Bahrain’s role as a regional fintech hub.
Strategic Responsibilities

Define governance frameworks for large-scale digital payments ecosystems, including domestic and cross-border flows

Design interoperability models across wallets, real-time payment rails, settlement engines, and merchant infrastructures

Establish architectural principles for scalability, transaction integrity, and systemic resilience

Embed preventative risk controls directly into payment flow design

Align ecosystem governance with Bahraini regulatory expectations and international payments standards

Produce authoritative, long-form documentation suitable for regulators, financial institutions, and policy stakeholders
Required Depth of Expertise

12–15+ years in payments systems, financial infrastructure, or fintech governance

Deep understanding of payment rails, settlement logic, and transaction lifecycle management

Proven experience operating at ecosystem or market-wide level rather than single-platform scope

Strong analytical writing and architectural articulation skills

Demonstrated ability to function autonomously in a senior remote role
