Director of Digital Payments Infrastructure & Scheme Strategy

Executive Mandate
A high-impact opportunity for a seasoned payments architect to lead the strategic evolution of next-generation digital payment infrastructures across a multi-jurisdictional GCC environment. This role operates at the intersection of real-time payment systems, card scheme integrations, ISO 20022 migration, and central bank interoperability frameworks.
You will be responsible for architecting scalable, compliant, and latency-optimized payment ecosystems that seamlessly integrate card networks, A2A transfers, open banking rails, and emerging CBDC frameworks.
Core Strategic Responsibilities
1. Payment Architecture & Infrastructure Design
- Lead the design of high-throughput payment processing systems capable of handling multi-currency, multi-rail transactions.
- Oversee integration of real-time gross settlement (RTGS) and instant payment platforms.
- Develop resilient architectures leveraging microservices, event-driven systems, and distributed ledger technologies (DLT).
2. Scheme & Network Integration
- Drive integration with global card networks and regional payment schemes.
- Define routing logic for cost optimization, transaction speed, and regulatory compliance.
- Optimize interchange fee structures and transaction lifecycle management.
3. Regulatory & Compliance Engineering
- Translate evolving GCC regulatory frameworks into system-level requirements.
- Ensure alignment with AML, KYC, FATF guidelines, and data localization laws.
- Collaborate with regulators on sandbox initiatives and pilot programs.
4. Cross-Border Payment Innovation
- Architect solutions for low-cost remittances and corridor optimization.
- Integrate FX engines and liquidity management systems.
- Explore interoperability with CBDCs and digital settlement layers.
Technical Competency Requirements
- Deep expertise in payment protocols (ISO 8583, ISO 20022)
- Experience with cloud-native architectures (AWS/GCP/Azure)
- Strong understanding of API orchestration, tokenization, and fraud detection systems
- Familiarity with blockchain-based settlement mechanisms and smart contracts

- Lead cross-functional teams across engineering, compliance, and product
