Location: Remote — Geopolitically centered around the UAE’s leadership in DeFi regulatory experimentation
Seniority Level: Director / International Policy-Tech Architect
Specialization: Cross-Border DeFi Policy / RegTech for DAOs and Protocols / Token Economy Governance
Languages: English (mandatory), Arabic or French (preferred)
Sector: DeFi / Web3 Policy / Digital Asset Regulation / Fintech Law
Position Summary:
In an age where decentralized finance (DeFi) has matured into a parallel financial system operating outside traditional oversight, the UAE has positioned itself as a laboratory for cross-border fintech innovation and post-regulatory frameworks. A rare, future-defining remote position is now available for a Director of Cross-Border DeFi Regulation Architecture, whose role is to envision, design, and implement regulatory frameworks and supervisory technologies capable of governing DeFi protocols, DAOs, and on-chain governance systems at scale.
You will work across national and supranational boundaries to propose post-compliance models for borderless token economies, decentralized exchanges (DEXs), algorithmic stablecoins, and governance tokens — ensuring compatibility with the UAE’s virtual asset regimes (VARA, ADGM), FATF guidance, and emerging global norms.
Key Responsibilities:
-
Design a regulatory meta-framework for borderless DeFi that aligns with the UAE’s Virtual Asset Regulatory Authority (VARA) regime and the Global Digital Finance principles.
-
Engineer open, modular policy protocols for governing DAO-based entities, including KYC gating mechanisms and smart audit APIs.
-
Build AI-powered observability layers that detect illicit activity across DEXs, DeFi lending markets, and synthetic asset platforms.
-
Develop cross-jurisdictional legal mapping tools that translate traditional securities, derivatives, and insurance regulation into on-chain equivalents.
-
Collaborate with blockchain foundations, legal scholars, FATF technologists, and GCC regulators to prototype hybrid regulatory sandboxes.
-
Construct token classification frameworks capable of dynamically categorizing tokens as utility, security, governance, or synthetic instruments.
-
Guide the introduction of programmable compliance tooling, automated tax logic, and smart contract audit layers across protocols.
Ideal Profile:
-
10+ years in financial regulation, Web3 compliance, or legal engineering for decentralized systems.
-
Familiarity with UAE regulatory institutions (VARA, ADGM, DFSA), and global crypto compliance best practices.
-
Expertise in DAO governance, tokenomics, and decentralized system architecture.
-
Advanced legal/technical degree in Financial Regulation, Blockchain Law, Web3 Engineering, or International Finance Policy.
