Job Overview

We are seeking a strategic, execution-driven Chief Operating Officer (COO) to lead operational performance across our fintech company as we scale. This role demands an operator who thrives in regulated environments, understands the nuances of embedded finance and real-time payments, and can harmonize growth velocity with infrastructure stability. The ideal candidate brings deep fintech expertise, a history of building operational systems that scale, and a low-ego, results-first leadership style.

You will own and evolve our end-to-end operating model, including compliance-aligned process frameworks, performance metrics across functional units, and delivery pipelines for new product features. You will work cross-functionally with Product, Risk, Compliance, and Engineering teams to optimize outcomes while maintaining regulatory discipline. If you’ve helped navigate Series B to IPO or acquisition within fintech—especially in BaaS, payments, lending, or digital wallets—we want to talk.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operational Strategy & Execution: Architect and drive company-wide operational strategy aligned with quarterly OKRs and long-term product vision.

  • Regulatory Coordination: Lead cross-functional readiness for audits, licensing, and compliance obligations (e.g., PCI-DSS, SOC 2, PSD2, or MAS regulations).

  • Scale Infrastructure: Design and implement process automation, vendor evaluation frameworks, and internal tooling systems to support customer growth and transaction scale.

  • Risk & Resilience Oversight: Partner with Legal, Risk, and Compliance to strengthen KYC/AML processes, fraud detection workflows, and incident response protocols.

  • Cross-Team Delivery: Create frictionless pathways for product deployment, aligning engineering, design, and compliance without bottlenecks.

  • Metrics & Performance: Build dashboards and ops review cadence to track operational KPIs (e.g., transaction latency, SLA adherence, customer ops costs).

  • Leadership: Develop and mentor a high-performing operations team spanning customer success, onboarding, business ops, and payments operations.

Qualifications

Required:

  • 10+ years of progressive leadership in fintech or financial services, with 3+ years in a COO or SVP/EVP Ops role.

  • Proven operational leadership through at least one high-growth phase (e.g., 10x scale, international expansion, post-Series B to exit).

  • Deep knowledge of the fintech regulatory environment; familiarity with banking-as-a-service, EMI licenses, or payment schemes (e.g., SEPA, ACH, SWIFT).

  • Experience overseeing API-based operational platforms and complex vendor ecosystems.

  • Operational fluency with systems like Salesforce, Zendesk, JIRA, Looker, or similar tools; can work with product and engineering leaders to streamline workflows.

  • Exceptional analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize operations data into actionable insights for executive and board-level audiences.

Preferred:

  • Experience with real-time payments infrastructure or card issuing programs (Visa/Mastercard).

  • Previous leadership in a dual-regulated environment (e.g., U.S. and EU).

  • MBA or advanced degree in Business, Engineering, or Operations Management.
