About the Role:

As Chief Digital Payments Officer, you will be the strategic leader responsible for driving the vision, development, and execution of our digital payments ecosystem. This is not a traditional payments role — you will shape the future of embedded finance, API-first transaction platforms, tokenized payments, and real-time cross-border rails. You will lead the charge in building secure, scalable, and regulatory-compliant payment solutions that give us an edge in one of the most competitive verticals in fintech.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Ownership:

    • Define and lead the digital payments strategy across card, non-card (e.g., RTP, UPI, FedNow), and decentralized payment rails.

    • Drive the roadmap for merchant services, issuer/acquirer processing, and digital wallets.

    • Evaluate and execute buy/build/partner strategies to strengthen our payments stack.

  • Technology & Product Leadership:

    • Oversee the design and implementation of payment orchestration layers, tokenization, network token support, and fraud risk engines.

    • Collaborate closely with CTO/CPO on integrating modular microservices architecture with payment APIs, SDKs, and low-latency transaction systems.

  • Regulatory & Risk Oversight:

    • Ensure compliance with PSD2, PCI DSS, GDPR, ISO 20022, and local payment regulations (e.g., MAS, RBI, CFPB).

    • Own internal controls around KYC/KYB, AML, sanctions screening, chargebacks, and transaction monitoring.

  • Partnerships & Ecosystem Development:

    • Establish and manage relationships with card schemes (Visa, Mastercard), acquiring banks, PSPs, gateway providers, and network partners.

    • Lead commercial negotiations, technical onboarding, and volume ramp strategies with fintech integrators, BNPL providers, and neobanks.

  • Team & Culture:

    • Build and lead high-performing product, operations, and compliance teams focused on digital payments innovation.

    • Promote a culture of accountability, experimentation, and continuous optimization.

Qualifications:

  • 12+ years of progressive experience in digital payments, fintech infrastructure, or financial services platforms, including at least 5 years in executive or P&L leadership.

  • Proven success in scaling multi-country payment products, including card issuing, acquiring, and non-card rails.

  • Deep understanding of payment networks (e.g., SWIFT, SEPA, ACH, RTP, blockchain-based systems).

  • Strong grasp of API-first architecture, cloud-native platforms, and agile product development.

  • Prior experience working with regulators and designing controls that satisfy compliance without slowing innovation.

  • Demonstrated track record of delivering secure, low-latency, high-throughput payment systems.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with tokenized and alternative payments (Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, crypto wallets).

  • Familiarity with CBDCs, stablecoins, and programmable money in regulated environments.

  • Operational knowledge of emerging payment models (e.g., push payments, ISO 20022 modernization).
